The National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) is a grassroots advocacy organization that seeks to improve public policy around research, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. They launched Breast Cancer Deadline 2020 , a call to action for policymakers, researchers, breast cancer supporters and other stakeholders to eradicate the disease by January 1, 2020.
Founded in 1991 by a group of breast cancer patients including President Fran Visco. Coalition members include breast cancer support, information and service groups, as well as women's health and provider organizations.

This landmark legislation guarantees care for low-income, uninsured women who are examined and diagnosed with breast and cervical cancers through the Centers for Early Control of Breast Cancer and Prevention of Disease and Prevention (CDC). The law provides federal funds to help cover more than half of the cost to countries that choose to cover care for these women through Medicaid. Since this law is enacted, all 50 States and the District of Columbia have participated in the program. In December 2003, the Medicare Modernization Law was signed into a law that created a prescribed drug benefit for all effective Medicare recipients in 2006. Transitional benefits are based on the Access to Cancer Therapies Act, an old NBCC priority that will provide Medicare coverage for all oral cancer drugs. Advocates collaborate in the design, behavior, and monitoring of specific clinical trials to improve quality, number, and participation. Collaboration with Genentech helps bring targeted treatments to the Herceptin market. NBCC also partnered with the Love/Avon Army to unite cancer researchers with women willing to participate in a research study on the causes and prevention of breast cancer.
Providing evidence-based and patient-centered information on important breast cancer issues and research has also been a key focus for NBCC since its inception. NBCC staff and advocates assess breast cancer research in scientific and medical literature, and significant research findings are reported in popular media to provide a patient-centered, in-depth perspective on current research for the community. The NBCC website, KnowBreastCancer.org, provides easy access to the public for up-to-date information on breast cancer issues and news of the day, with a more in-depth, patient-centered perspective. Project LEAD
