Gordon B. Mills is the distinguished Chairman of Weiss University in Cancer Treatment, chair of the department of biological systems, co-director of Ovarian Cancer Moon Shot, Co-Director Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Institute for Personal Therapy Cancer and Director of the Center Kleberg for Molecular Markers at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
He is most famous for his discovery in the PI3K pathway in breast cancer.
Mills received his BS in 1975, MD in 1977, and a PhD in 1984, all from the University of Alberta, Edmonton. He undertook postdoc in immunology at the Hospital of Sick in Toronto and later joined faculty at the University of Toronto in 1985 as an assistant professor and director of oncology research. He was recruited to MD Anderson in 1994.
Along with his research at PI3K, he focuses on signal paths and markers for targeted therapies. He and Lewis C. Cantley lead the PI3K Targeting initiative in Women's Cancer Stand Up To Cancer.
His research has been funded by many sources such as the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, the US Department of Defense, AstraZeneca, the Adelson Medical Research Foundation, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, GlaxoSmithKline, the American Association for Research on Cancer, and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
