Careers
Voss was elected as an astronaut candidate in 1990 and flew as a mission specialist in the mission of STS-57 (1993), STS-63 (1995), STS-83 (1997), STS-94 (1997) and STS-99 (2000). ). All its flights include other female astronauts as well.
During his career as an astronaut, he participated in the first shuttle meeting with Mir space station at STS-63: it flew around the station, testing communications and maneuvering in flight for later missions, but not actually anchored. As a member of the STS-99 crew on the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, he and his fellow crew members continue to work in turns to produce what at that time was the most accurate digital topographic map on Earth.
From October 2004 to November 2007, he was the Director of Science for NASA's Kepler Space Observatory, an Earth-orbiting satellite designed to find Earth-like exoplanets in a nearby solar system. It was launched in March 2009 and still operates at the time of her death at the age of 55 years from breast cancer.
At the Astronaut Station Branch Office, he serves as a Charge Leader. He also works for Orbital Sciences Corporation in support of aviation operations.
