Cleveland University Hospital is the premier nonprofit medical complex in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Cleveland University Medical Center Hospital is an affiliated hospital of Case Western Reserve University - a relationship that was first established in 1896. With 150 sites throughout northeastern Ohio, the University Hospital network includes hospitals, outpatient centers, and primary care physicians.

Cleveland University Medical Center Hospital is home to world-class research and clinical centers, including cancer, pediatrics, women's health, orthopedics, spine, radiology, radiation oncology, neurosurgery neuroscience, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, organ transplants and human genetics. Vision 2010

Vision 2010 is the largest development and improvement project in the history of the University Hospital. New construction includes a new 200 bed cancer hospital (UH Seidman cancer center), improved emergency room facilities at CMC, new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Rainbow Babies & amp; Children's Hospital, and new construction on other hospital sites. Capital expenditure for this project, according to a hospital press release, is about US $ 1 billion. Construction will initially be completed in 2010, but is not scheduled for completion until 2011.

Harrington Project

Harrington Project for Discovery & amp; Development, launched in 2012, is a $ 300 million initiative at the University Hospital whose goal is to accelerate the delivery of new drugs and improve the medical reputation of Cleveland and Hospitals. It was established through a $ 50 million prize from the Harrington family and an additional $ 100 million for support from the University Hospital. The project has three components, Harrington Discovery Institute (HDI), Innovation Support Center (ISC), and Biomotiv.

In June 2014, the Harrington Discovery Institute received a $ 25 million grant from the State of Ohio through Third Frontier's economic development program to continue its mission.

  • George Washington Crile (1910-1924 Chairman of Surgery) - Performed the first blood transfusion. Established Lakeside Hospital of University Hospital Case Medical Center, and later founded Cleveland Clinic.
  • Claude Beck (Aluminum Surgeon; 1924-1971 Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery - the first such position in the US) -
    • First surgical treatment of coronary artery disease (1935) was performed.

Controversy

The University of Cleveland Hospital faces many lawsuits following an incident at the Fertility Clinic that endangers hundreds of eggs and embryos stored in liquid nitrogen. Unexpected temperature fluctuations with network storage banks occur at what point the system does not know the survival of eggs and embryos.
