Texas Cancer and Hematology Center is the largest pediatric and bloodborne oncology center in the United States. 2017-2018 edition of US News & amp; World Report ranked Children's Hospital of Texas among the 4 best hospital children in the United States and # 4 in subspecialty of pediatric cancer. Located in Houston, Texas.
The multidisciplinary center facility, located at Texas Children's Hospital at Texas Medical Center, includes a 36-bed unit, a 22,000-square-foot outpatient clinic (2,000 m 2 ) and 15 units of spinal bone transplant, and 42 research laboratories. Each year the center provides special care levels to more than 1,500 children and adolescents newly diagnosed with cancer and blood diseases.
The center is managed by nationally and internationally recognized experts who have made great clinical and research progress in the treatment of childhood malignancies. Citizens who complete core courses in pediatrics may participate in accredited subspecialty training at the Baylor College of Medicine's hematology/oncology scholarship program. The center has three NIH funded training grants.
Current research programs include molecular oncology, tumor cell biology, therapeutic progression, cancer genomics and genomics, cell and gene therapy, transplant biology, tumor immunology and neuro-oncology. The main focus of the center is to develop innovative therapies for pediatric cancer and blood disorders that are the biggest challenge for healing.

Histori
Originally called the Hematology-Research Oncology Service, the Texas Child Cancer Center was founded by Dr. Donald J. Fernbach in January 1958. The National Cancer Institute provided the first funded grant.
In 1959, the first bone marrow transplant from one identical twin to another was performed by Fernbach; this is one of the first procedures of its kind for aplastic anemia.
The Hematology Center at Texas Children's Hospital has treated children diagnosed with haematological disorders since 1958. A comprehensive program for screening newborns at the Harris County County Hospital facility began in 1975. The center assists in establishing screening programs a newborn in the state of Texas. which is managed by the Texas Department of Health Services. References for patients diagnosed with sickle cell disease were received from the East Texas region and 20 districts around the greater Houston area.
In 2001, the Sickle Cell Center at Texas Children's Hospital was formed to provide comprehensive care to patients followed by services.

Texas Children's Hospital is affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine. Senior faculty members Baylor College of Medicine oversee the efforts of the Cancer Center in basic and clinical research.
Inter-institutional collaboration
In March 2009, The Retinoblastoma Center of Houston became the world's first retinoblastoma center consisting of more than two centers. The multi-institutional collaboration involves scientists from the Texas Children's Cancer Center, Children's University of Texas Cancer Hospital M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine, and Houston Methodist Hospital.
Outreach clinics
Cancer and Hematology Clinic Vannie E. Cook Jr. is an outreach clinic of the Texas Child Cancer and Hematology Center. It is located in McAllen, Texas along the Texas-Mexico Border. In the last ten years, clinics have treated more than 5,000 children with cancer or haematological disorders.
The clinic is headed by medical director. Juan Carlos Bernini and by Dr. Rodrigo Erana, both assistant professor of pediatrics - hematology/oncology at Baylor College of Medicine, along with child nurse nurses, registered nursing staff, social workers, clinical technicians and administrative support.

Gift philanthropy
As part of Texas Children's Hospital, the center is designated a non-profit medical company hired as a 501 (c) (3) tax-free organization under the IRS.
In 2011, Robert Duvall appeared at a record-breaking Houston charity event when he was interviewed by Bob Schieffer for 'An Evening with a Texas Legend'. This event generated over $ 9 million.
