The Lustgarten Foundation , founded in 1999, is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization with a mission of advancing scientific and medical research related to the diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of pancreatic cancer. This is the largest private foundation dedicated solely to finance pancreatic cancer research. Based in Bethpage, NY, The Lustgarten Foundation aims: Improves research funding and support into biological mechanisms and clinical strategies related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer; Facilitate and promote dialogue among members of the medical and scientific community about basic and clinical research efforts related to pancreatic cancer; Increase public awareness of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of pancreatic cancer and provide information support for patients with pancreatic cancer, their families, and friends.
The main methods for advocacy and donation collection involve running/running and other events at the regional level. The Lustgarten Foundation has raised more than $ 16.1 million for pancreatic cancer research in 2012.
The Foundation fosters a collaborative effort known as the Pancreatic Cancer Research Consortium, in 2010, consisting of six leading medical institutions throughout the United States. The members are the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, David H.
